Ancestor of the slide projector, the magic lantern was invented in the XVII century. It allowed to project images painted on glass plates thanks to the light of a candle placed at the back of the unit.
Restored, polished, this magic lantern was an instrument of the Swiss optical company Büchi (original plate above the lens), created in 1871 by Adam Friedrich Büchi, in Bern.
